Newcastle flop Thauvin wants Marseille return

Florian Thauvin could move back to Marseille on loan until
the end of the season, only five months after the attacker
departed Stade Velodrome to join Newcastle.

The 22-year-old has endured a frustrating campaign with
the struggling Premier League side, typically only making
fleeting appearances from the bench when he has been
given an opportunity by Steve McClaren.

Frustrated, the Orleans-born winger wishes to return to the
south of France and has made no secret of his feelings to
the club in recent times. Indeed, he even instigated the
potential six-month loan, requesting that his agent try to
broker a deal.

Since moving to Newcastle, Thauvin, who has played 13
Premier League matches without scoring, seems to have
had a lust to return and has regularly posted on his Twitter
feed about his previous club.

Marseille, who received around £12 million for the player’s
services in the summer plus the loan of Remy Cabella, are
willing to welcome the former Bastia man back. Michel’s
side have struggled in Ligue 1 this season and their attack is
currently in the midst of an injury crisis, depriving the squad
of Romain Alessandrini and Lucas Ocampos, who badly
twisted an ankle last weekend in the scoreless home draw
with Guingamp.

Newcastle are set to give a definitive answer to Thauvin’s
request on Thursday, and a move could be pushed through
before the weekend.
