The 18-year-old, who has been training with the first-team
at Melwood and has made a massive impression on Jurgen
Klopp, will travel to Belgium on Thursday night before
concluding paperwork and undergoing a medical on Friday.
The Pro League side have 2004 Champions League winner
Benni McCarthy as assistant manager, and the retired South
Africa international’s fluency in Portuguese as well as the
club’s offensive style of play were viewed as major positives
by Liverpool.
Sint-Truiden already possess two South American
youngsters on temporary deals from Chelsea, with
Columbian Joao Rodriguez and Chilean Chrsitan Cuevas
both fully aware of Allan’s talents having faced him at
Under-17 level.
The young pair, aged 19 and 20 respectively, urged the De
Kanaries to tie up the deal for an “unbelievable player” who
can operate in the middle as both a destroyer and attacker.
Allan was pursued by Liverpool after his performance in last
year’s Frenz International Cup, where he captained
Internacional to victory in a competition also featuring
Tottenham and Valencia.
They invited him to England, where he played two trial
games for the Under-21s in April, and began negotiations
with his Brazilian club over a permanent transfer. Allan was
back on Merseyside in July and was integrated into the first
team during pre-season and even found himself on the
bench against HJK Helskini in August. His signing was
confirmed on deadline day, as was an immediate loan move
to SJK Seinajoki.
In nine months he had gone from winning an international
youth tournament to helping the Finnish side clinch their
first-ever league title. It is understood that after the
competition of his loan spell, Allan will link up with Liverpool
on their pre-season tour. Klopp is keen to fully integrate the
gifted youngster into the senior side as soon as he secures a
work permit.
Sint-Truiden are hoping that just as the teenager from Sao
Paulo elevated SJK during his stint there, he will do the
same as they push to surge up the standings. Allan, who
recorded five assists, three man-of-the-match awards and
two goals in Finland, is expected to stay in the same
apartment block as McCarthy.
Liverpool will also regularly send representatives to monitor
his progress, with a home game against second-placed
Anderlecht at the end of the month of particular interest.
