Klopp debunks Matip signing rumours

Jurgen Klopp has denied reports that Liverpool have signed
Schalke’s Joel Matip on a pre-contract agreement.

The defender, who has been stalling on an extension with
the Bundesliga side and will be a free agent in the summer,
has been heavily courted by the Reds as they bid to bolster
their back four.

Liverpool were keen on signing Matip this month, but the
24-year-old wants to see out the rest of this season with
Schalke, meaning the club are working on a deal that will
see him move to Anfield in June.

However, Reds boss Klopp is adamant that there is still no
agreement in place for the Cameroon international, who can
play as a centre-back or deep-lying midfielder.

He explained: “There’s nothing to say about this, to be
honest. I don’t know who spoke about it and said something
is fixed.

“When something is fixed or whatever, you’ll be the first I
speak about it with, so there’s nothing else on this.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool are expected to confirm the signing of
youth goalkeeper Kamil Grabara for the Academy from
Polish side Ruch Chorzow.
