Nigeria B captain Chima Akas has declared his readiness to
lead the country to success at the African Nations
Championship in Rwanda.
Akas who was named as captain of the Super Eagles side
following Gbolahan Salami’s absence and he has promised
not let the country down in Rwanda while admitting Salami
would be missed.
"Gbolahan is the captain, but as he has opted out. I'm his
assistant, so I need to carry on," Akas told Radio Nigeria.
"He is my friend, we do everything together and I really miss
him. But I have to carry on with the rest players.
"We have to work very hard in our preparation. And go to
Rwanda and win the championship," he concluded.
On Tuesday, Tunde Adeniji's brace plus Ifeanyi Mustapha's
lone strike helped the team beat University of Pretoria
football club in a friendly game on Tuesday.
Nigeria will open their campaign against Niger Republic on
January 18 in Kigali, before facing Tunisia and Guinea in the
preliminary stages.
The Super Eagles finished in third place at the 2014
tournament held in South Africa.
