Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed Hector Bellerin
as one of the best right-backs in the country after his display
in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Sunderland.
Bellerin provided two assists - for Aaron Ramsey and Olivier
Giroud - as the FA Cup holders booked their place in the
fourth round of this season’s competition with a comeback
win at the Emirates Stadium.
Jeremain Lens opened the scoring in the clash in north
London, but Joel Campbell cancelled out the Dutchman's
strike prior to Ramsey and Giroud's strikes.
“Of course he’s one of the best in the country,” Wenger said
when asked about Bellerin's display. “In the last 20 minutes,
he created a goal chance every time he went up there.
“Look at his defensive and offensive numbers. He’s only 20
years old so there’s a lot more to come from him.”
Bellerin has made 24 appearances in all competitions this
term and his form has led Wenger to admit there is “a
possibility” that Mathieu Debuchy will leave the club in the
January transfer window.
Meanwhile, Wenger praised the performance of 19-year-old
Alex Iwobi, who played 67 minutes in place of Mesut Ozil as
Arsenal rested several first-choice players.
“I like the timing of his passes,” Wenger added. “In the
middle of the park that is a vital quality. He plays forward,
he’s not scared to take people on. That’s not easy for a
young boy.
“I thought we had a very convincing second-half after being
a bit shocked in the first-half and taking time to find our
game.”
