join Chinese club Beijing Guoan will not signal the end of his
international career.
The 27-year-old midfielder broke into Dunga’s side during
November’s World Cup qualifiers, his deep-lying playmaking
impressing during a full 90 minutes which saw him score his
first intenational goal in the 3-0 victory over Peru.
But with the likes of Diego Tardelli, Ricardo Goulart and
Everton Ribeiro all losing their places in Dunga’s Brazil team
following their respective switches to Asian football, Augusto is hoping he will retain his place in the side and revealed he has discussed his forthcoming transfer with Brazil Technical Coordinator Gilmar Rinaldi.
“All this played a part in my choice, it was a tough decision
that I had to make quickly,” he told a press conference.
“It's a risk I run. I met with Gilmar Rinaldi in Rio and talked
to him about what was happening. He gave me his blessing.
“I will try and keep training. It was a choice I made and I
now have to pursue [a recall to the national team].”
Former Leverkusen star Augusto was also linked with a
move to Germany, with heavy interest from Schalke, but he
revealed the offer from China was too good to turn down.
“There was a very good offer from Germany, three times
more than I make here at Corinthinans,” he said.
“But then comes a proposal that I couldn’t refuse. I have to
think about my family, about my future. I am a guy with long
history of injuries.”
Coach Tite is seeing his 2015 Brazilian champions
dismantled, with fellow midfielder Ralf set to follow Augusto
to Beijing Guoan while Jadson has joined Tianjin Quanjian.
Corinthians' two regular Brazil internationals Gil and Elias
are also being linked with moves to Chinese football.
