Siasia eyes Gold in Rio 2016

Nigeria U23 coach Samson Siasia has assured that his side
will continue to work towards a better outing at the 2016
Olympics in Brazil.

The Dream Team VI emerged champions of the 2015 African
U23 Championship after defeating Algeria 2-1 at the Stade
Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium, Dakar with Etebo
Oghenekaro netting a brace.

According to the former Super Eagles forward, his boys did
the needful despite facing a tough opponent in Les Fennecs.

“I’m very happy to have won this trophy, even if it was
difficult, but the essential thing was done,” Siasia told Caf
website.

“It was not easy for us taking into considerations the teams
we met in the first and second round.

“Algeria is a good team and they showed that on the pitch,
and playing well. My players also did well by scoring the
goals we needed to win the match.

“Now we will continue to work, correct our mistakes and
improve our game.”

Siasia led the country’s U23 team to a silver medal finish at
the 2008 Olympics and is targeting to go a step further when
the men’s football event of the Rio Olympics kicks off next
year.

“I was coach of Nigeria during the Olympic Games in Beijing
in 2008, when we reached the final, and in 2016 we will aim
to do more than reaching the final by winning the trophy.”
