Villarreal's Bruno Soriano says Sergio Ramos asked him to
join Real Madrid after Sunday's game.
The defensive midfielder impressed as Villarreal took an
eighth minute lead against Rafael Benitez's side and held
out for the three points at El Madrigal.
And the Spain international, 31, says he impressed so much
that Ramos asked him to make the move to Madrid.
He told Goal : "For several years I have been trying to get a
very good player to swap shirts with.
"Ramos has good things to say about me and I'm grateful.
It's true that he asked me to sign for Real Madrid. That
coming from a player of his level is welcome."
While Soriano feels a win was a fair result for his side, who
now sit fifth in La Liga, three points behind Madrid and a
further five adrift of Barcelona, he insists they understand
that they are still below the level of Los Blancos.
"The truth is that perhaps a draw against Madrid would have
been the right result but we didn't suffer too much to hold
onto the result so I think a win is fair.
"We had many chances in the first half. We are happy. We
always want to play at this level, with this intensity and win
these games.
"Sometimes we can't win for several reasons but it is true
that we have to play well to win against Madrid, or anyone
else.
"The win over Real Madrid does not mean anything. They
are in another league and we are aware that the Madrid
game is over.
"We are humbly trying to get as high up the table as possible
and we're not looking down at Madrid but other rivals who
we know we can beat.
"I'm sure Madrid will be up there at the end."
Soriano was up against Luka Modric in Sunday's game and
says he sees the Croatian as a role model.
"Modric is a great player, he is a player who always tracks
me. It is a benchmark for me because he plays very well and
has very good judgment."
