Louis van Gaal appeared resigned to his fate as outgoing Manchester United manager on Sunday morning, telling a reporter outside his team's hotel: "It's over".
As he left the hotel the Dutchman, who on Saturday led United to their first FA Cup triumph in 12 years, refused to speak to the press beyond his two-word lament in response to a question from a Sky Sports Newsreporter.

The Telegraph reported exclusively after United's 2-1 extra-time win thatJose Mourinho will be appointed the club's new manager this week, a situation which van Gaal seems to have confirmed with his short statement.
However, the club has attempted to clarify that their manager merely meant that the season was over, and no more.
Yesterday's Wembley celebrationsmade for a happy end to a tumultuous season for the oft-maligned 64-year-old coach, yet the celebratory mood has evidently evaporated overnight in light of the Mourinho revelations.
The Portuguese was sacked as manager of Chelsea in December after a dreadful run of results saw the Blues' Premier League title defence crumble well before Christmas.
Mourinho has nevertheless retained his reputation as a top-tier coach and the reports linking him with United have haunted van Gaal for several months.

Since news of Mourinho's impending move to Old Trafford broke, news outlets have been camped outside his house in the hope of speaking to the Portuguese, and he was snapped taking a walk in London this afternoon.
