Gaziantepspor defender Gbenga Arokoyo has said he is ready to prove his quality with the Nigeria senior nationalteam in next month’s international friendlies against Maliand Luxembourg.
Arokoyo, who was a member of the 2011 Caf U20 Africa Cup of Nations winning squad under coach John Obuh, had been overlooked by coaches since he moved from Kwara United to Europe in 2012.
He established himself at Sweden's Mjallby before he joined the Turkish outfit in 2014 and has finally got his chance to play for his country at the senior level after he was included in a list of 26 by interim coach Salisu Yusufon Wednesday..
"I feel really blessed and happy," Arokoyo toldGoalabouthis first invitation to the Super Eagles.
"Of course I expected the call up having been working hard at my club and finally it has come and I'm so happy.
"Nigeria have been struggling with the central defensive position since the retirement of former captain Joseph Yobo after the World Cup in 2014.
"I see my invitation as an opportunity to bring my quality to help the team and together we can become a better team," said Arokoyo.
"I want to say big thank you to the coaches for the honour to serve my nation again and also for all Nigerians to give us their prayers and support in the two games," he concluded.
Nigeria will take on Mali in France on May 27 before facing Luxembourg five days later.
