Nasarawa United captain Emmanuel Makama says his club will target early goals when they square up with Senegalese outfit As Academie Generation Foot in this weekend’s Caf Confederation Cup m preliminary round first-leg showdown at the Abuja National Stadium.
The Solid Miners go into the clash after they finished third in the Nigeria Professional Football League Super Four competition that was held in Kaduna and Akwa Ibom States, and Makama believes his teammates can start their continental campaign on a good note.
“Attack is the name of the game because a bad result isn't on our horizon,” Makama told Goal.
“We plan to attack and get an early breakthrough, and by doing that we will put AS Academie Generation Foot under pressure.”
The versatile defender also said they will not be letting the pre-match hype get to heads.
“I expect mind games before the game. There is always that sort of thing, but it never gets to me. I just laugh it off,” said a confident Makama.
“Playing on the continent is a different ball game entirely; it is not like any other competition. And this one is more special because it is a Confederation’s Cup match.
“It's been too long since Nasarawa United tasted continental action, we are determined to perform well and defend the pride of our great nation,” he concluded.
