Jose Enrique move to Newcastle collapses

Jose Enrique is training with Liverpool rather than
negotiating with Newcastle as he looks set to remain on
Merseyside.

Ahead of Monday night’s transfer deadline the North East
club opened discussions with the defender over returning to
Tyneside, where he spent four years before joining the
Reds.

The 30-year-old is out of contract in the summer and
Liverpool were willing to let him leave as well as provide
some compensation on the remainder of his deal.

However, it is understood that Enrique could not agree terms
with Newcastle over wages, as well as the length and the
structure of their offer.

The fullback is on package believed to be around £65,000
per week and would’ve seen that figure greatly diminish if he
accepted the switch.

Enrique spent Monday evening taking part in the Liverpool's
full training session ahead of Tuesday’s Premier League
encounter with Leicester, instead of continuing talks with
Newcastle.

Last summer, he also turned down a deadline day move to
West Brom despite being told his playing time would be
limited.
