Marseille coach Michel has admitted he did not ask the club
to sign Florian Thauvin, after the winger returned to Stade
Velodrome on loan from Newcastle.
The 23-year-old has endured a dismal time at St James’
Park, making just five starts and scoring once since his
summer move for a reported fee of £12 million.
Michel says that while he is happy to have Thauvin back at
the club, he is not the player he was hoping to sign in the
transfer window.
"Thauvin's not a player I asked for but he's good and is
welcome," he told reporters.
"I still need an attacker. Other players who have been
spoken of to improve the team have not come.
"Thauvin is an interesting player but I didn't ask for him.
"I know him, he has a good level... but I would have asked
for someone with a different profile, someone who could
have solved some of the problems of my team.
"He's a good player, but not one I asked for."
