Nasarawa United head coach Kabiru Dogo is optimistic his team will not disappoint Nigerians in the CAF Confederation Cup tournament despite finishing third at the Super 4 pre- season tournament.
Nasarawa ended the tourney with eight points but the soft spoken Dogo told Goal : “The tournament to me is not the true reflection of my team, it's an eye opener to see the mistakes we need to correct before we start our campaign.
We played very well but we lacked the killer instinct in front of goal, that's the only area we need to sort out.”
Continuing, he said: “I can assure Nigerians that we won’t
disappoint, we are a young, hungry and talented side and our potential will shock Africa and hopefully make Nigeria proud in the competition.”
The Solid Miners, who finished third in the Nigeria Professional Football League last season will kick-start their Confederation Cup campaign against AS Academie Generation Foot of Senegal at the Abuja National Stadium on Sunday.
Nasarawa United opted to play in Abuja as their home ground in Lafia is presently undergoing renovation.
Also this weekend, Nigeria’s other flagbearer in the CAF Confederation Cup, Super 4 champions Akwa United will travel to Congo to play Vita Club Mokanda.
In the CAF Champions League, Warri Wolves will host Praia
Cruz from Sao Tome and Principe while two–time champions Enyimba FC are in Uganda to play Vipers FC.
