Rwandan businessmen are not happy that the Nigeria
national team is no longer part of the African Nations
Championship due to the amount of business opportunities
they brought to the east African country, goal.com reported.
Nigeria lost 1-0 to Guinea in their final Group C game last
Tuesday and failed to reach the knock out stages.
Some of the locals who spoke to Goal said it was a big loss
for their businesses as Nigeria are no longer in the
competition.
Uwirinbiyimana Eustache, a manager at one of the hotels
occupied by Nigerian journalists who came to cover the
competition, said the facility has lost a lot with the exit of
the west Africans.
“We have over 15 guests lodging at our hotel, Shan-Grila
hotel, but about 10 of them have decided to change their
tickets,” Eustache said.
“They have been a good guest and my belief was that their
team would get to the last four so that we can get more
from them, but definitely, we are not going to gain more
from them because of the exit of their team.
“Apart from their hotel bills, they usually bought food, and
some other things which we have not really experienced
since we opened the place.”
The security attaché of the Super Eagles who craved
anonymity said he was disappointed with the performance
of the team.
According to him, he had put all his hope on the Super
Eagles to get to the final of the competition as they are a
very good side.
“I expected a lot from the Nigerian team, actually I
supported Nigeria more than the Amavubi and I hoped they
would at least get to the last four, but it was a big
disappointment from the Nigerian team.
“I don’t think I will be going to the stadium again because I
am devastated due to Nigeria’s exit. I was looking up to the
final, but now Nigeria are not there again.”
Some of the journalists who traveled to Rwanda to cover the
championship actually fixed their return tickets for after the
final as they expected Nigeria to get at least to the semifinal,
but they were left disappointed as the team was kicked out
of the competition.
