The Leopard forward scored four goals in six games and finishes ahead of the Nigerian and Tunisia’s Ahmed Akaïchi as the tournament's highest goal scorerMeschack Elia has been crowned the best player and highest goal scorer at the 2016 African Nations Championship after scoring four goals in six games to help DR Congo win the tournament for the second time.
The Congolese tied with Chisom Chikara, Ahmed Akaichiand and Saad Bguir on four goals but had a superior number of assists (two).
Elia was in sensational form in both the final of the competition, netting a double against Mali in the final at the Amahoro Stadium on Sunday.
Aside the tops scorer’s award, he was named the tournament’s best player. Previous African Nations Championship best players include Ejike Uzoenyi (2014), Zouheir Dhaouadi (2011) and Tresor Mputu (2009).
DR Congo’s Ley Matampi was named best goalkeeper of the championship as the Leopards scooped the fair play trophy.
