Ubong Ekpai’s first half strike handed the Promise Keepers a massive win ahead of the second leg battle in Uyo.

Going into the game, Akwa United had been undefeated in their last five matches, winning three and drawing the others.

Both teams were inspiring at the blast of the whistle trying to get the needed curtain raiser. Vita were more desperate in their approach to score while Akwa United relied on the pace of Ekpai, Kufre and Ebong.

Akwa United goalkeeper Kayode was called to duty on several occasions in the opening twenty five minutes of the encounter, but stood tall in goal as the home side searched for the opener.

However, the Nigerians through Ekpai got the only goal of the game to condemn the hosts to defeat in front of their home fans.

The second leg tie will be played in the next fortnight at the ultra-modern Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
