CHAN 2016: Super Eagles should not Relent - Mutiu Adepoju

Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has advised the
Super Eagles never to relent should they hope to end the
2016 African Nations Championship on a high.

After a drab first half, Sunday Oliseh’s men put up an awe-
inspiring display to silence Niger Republic 4-1 at the Stade
Régional Nyamirambo to lead Group C with three points.

As the team prepares to face the Carthage Eagles who
chase their first win in the tourney on Friday, the midfielder
nicknamed ‘Headmaster’ insists the team must work hard to
silence Henryk Kasperczak’s side.

“They played very well in the second half [against Niger] and
they scored goals - they were beautiful goals and well
planned in for which I think the team is improving,” Adepoju
told Goal.

“I’m sure the Niger win will motivate them. I just think they
shouldn’t relax.

“They should continue working hard because the next match
won’t be easy as the last one because the Tunisians will
want to come out and win so that they can qualify, so they
won’t find it easy as they are up for what they did in the last
game, they should try and improve on it.”

The former Real Sociedad star is of the view that the Nigeria
Professional Football League stars are just evolving and
should not be compared with their foreign based colleagues,
and also feels the team or the technical crew should not be
evaluated by their success or failure in Rwanda.

“It is not a matter of challenging or no challenge; any of the
players that the coach thinks is good for the team should be
invited,” he continued.

“They are just starting so we shouldn’t be talking about
challenge or no challenge when they invite them.

“This is a competition in which they are just starting; we
shouldn’t be talking about assessment or no assessment.

Let them just go and get the victory and then come back
then we will know what assessment to do,” he concluded.

Nigeria are aiming for their first African Nations
Championship diadem after placing third during the 2014
edition staged in South Africa.
