Ameobi set for Bolton exit; Watford interested

Nigeria’s Shola Ameobi will play his final game for Bolton
Wanderers when they face MK Dons at the Macron Stadium
in an English Championship game on Saturday.

The forward came on as a substitute for injured Gary
Madine in the 52nd minutes of their 3-2 win against
Eastleigh at the Macro Stadium in a FA Cup replay match on
Wednesday and the striker is ready to feature again this
weekend.

With Bolton sitting at the bottom of the log with 17 points
from 27 games, assistant manager Steve Walford confirmed
that the former Newcastle United striker's services will not
be needed by the club when his current deal expires.

“Shola is fine, he’s fit. But he's obviously on a short-term
contract which runs out on Saturday and we're not in a
position to renew anyone's contract so this will be his last
week at the football club,” Walford told the Bolton News.

“He's done fine in training and he's ready to play [on
Wednesday] if need be.

“You'd like to keep someone of his experience around the
football club but we're not in a position to do that. It's a
shame but I'm sure he'll get fixed up somewhere else,” he
concluded.

The 35 year old has missed the last eight games with a
virus and a groin injury but will leave those behind when he
is called to play again.

Neil Lennon’s side suffered another injury blow in
Wednesday win with Madine walking out of the pitch in the
52nd minute while Emile Heskey with calf problem and Zach
Clough with a hip strain are unavailable.

Coach Lennon has however confirmed that the veteran
striker will feature for his side though the club is not likely to
renew his contract.

“Injuries are stacking up so Shola has got a good chance of
playing Saturday, put it that way. I thought he was good
when he came on,” Lennon told media.
