Dominic Iorfa has announced that he would be stepping
down as chairman of Lobi Stars after 14 years in charge of
the team.
Iorfa was named the head of the club in 2002 and he led the
club to win the Federation Cup title in 2003 after defeating
Sharks in the final.
The Nigeria international said he took the decision to enable
him face other challenges in life and also to give another
person a chance to lead the team.
Iorfa told Goal : “I will be stepping down at the end of 2015 to
face other challenges after managing the club for nearly 14
years.”
Iorfa made the club a household name that depend on
players from their own feeder team and financed the team
from proceeds made from sales of players to foreign clubs.
Taiye Taiwo, Moses Orkuma, Tony Okpotu progressed from
the club’s feeders’ team before their move to Europe.
Iorfa was very close to lifting the league title with Lobi during
the 2012/2013 season before the club placed third on the
league table behind champions, Kano Pillars and Enugu
Rangers barely a year after Lobi got to the final of the
Federation Cup before losing to Heartland.
The former Peterborough of England player was a losing
finalist with Lobi on three occasions in 2005, 2012 and while
in charge, the Makurdi based team never went on relegation.
