Rafael Márquez sólo jugó 63 minutos en el primer duelo de MéxicoMexico defender Rafa Marquez will miss the rest of the Copa America group stage because of a leg injury sustained in the team's opening draw against Bolivia, the FMF (Mexico's FA) announced Saturday.

"After the injury suffered yesterday during the match against Bolivia, Rafael Marquez went through medical tests today in Santiago," a statement read, saying the tests revealed an issue with a muscle in his upper left leg.

"The estimated recuperation time for this time of injury is between 7 days and 10 days."

The timeframe puts Marquez out of action for Mexico's second and third group matches - Monday's contest with Chile and the group ender Friday.

Should Mexico progress to a quarterfinal, Marquez still would be a question mark depending on how quickly the 36-year-old could bounce back from the issue.

Hugo Ayala and Julio "Cata" Dominguez started alongside Marquez in Mexico coach Miguel Herrera's three-man centre-back system. Possible replacements are rising Chivas star Carlos Salcedo and veteran Atlas defender Juan Carlos "Tope" Valenzuela, who was added to the roster as a replacement for Pachuca defender Miguel Herrera.
