VIDEO: Football in Argentina suspended after Ortega death

Emanuel Ortega has succumbed to the injuries he sustained after being pushed into a concrete wall by an opponent during a third-tier game

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has suspended all domestic action this weekend following the death of San Martin de Burzaco defender Emanuel Ortega at the age of 21.

The right-back had been fighting for his life for 11 days in the intensive care unit at the Sanatorio Mitre medical facility in Balvanera after suffering severe head trauma during his club's Primera C clash with Juventud Unida on May 3.

However, on Thursday, San Martin de Burzaco officials disclosed the sad news that Ortega had passed away during the early hours of the morning.

The Perico native had suffered a massive blow to his skull after being pushed over by an opponent in the 44th minute of the game against Juventud Unida and sent falling backwards into a concrete wall surrounding the pitch.

The AFA have now decided that all of this weekend's league games will be postponed as a mark of respect to Ortega.
