Manchester United have reportedly agreed personal terms with Valencia and Argentina defender Nicolas Otamendi.
United tried to sign the £36m-rated centre-back in the last transfer window but received no encouragement from the Spanish side.
The 27-year-old joined Valencia from from Porto for €12m on a five-year deal in February 2014 but was loaned to Brazilian outfit Atletico Mineiro for the remainder of the season.
Argentine Daily Ole on Thursday claim an agreement has now been reached with the Premier League club who have been looking to strengthen their defensive options in a bid to mount a strong challenge for all available trophies next season and launch an assault on next season’s Champions League.
With Mats Hummels apparently no longer interested in moving to England, United boss Louis Van Gaal will hope to wrap up the Otamendi deal promptly to avoid competition.
