Sadio Mane scored a record hat-trick in two minutes 56 seconds
Saido Mane scored the Premier League’s fastest-ever hat-trick as Southampton hammered Aston Villa 6-1 on Saturday.
The 23-year-old fired three goals in two minutes and 56 seconds – eclipsing Robbie Fowler’s record of four minutes and 33 seconds – to put the hosts 3-0 up after just 16 minutes, before Shane Long registered a double.
Christian Benteke pulled one back to make it 5-1 at half-time, but Graziano Pelle then blasted in a sixth late in the second half as Ronald Koeman’s men enjoyed a superb afternoon with their first win in five top-flight outings.
Villa needed a win to guarantee Premier League safety, so Tim Sherwood’s side have to wait for the 3pm kick-off results to see if they’ll still be in danger going into the final day.
