What is hindering the growth of Nigerian football – Henry Nwosu


It is no longer news that Nigerian football is going through its ebb in recent times. From a FIFA ranking that delivers a monthly dose of disappointment with every release, knowing fully well that we were once ranked the
5th best team in the World, to the prospect of not featuring at the 2017 Nations Cup for a second time in a row after missing out on the chance to defend the title won in South Africa in 2013 at the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea.

Highlighting the problems in the Nation’s most loved Sport is 1980 Nations Cup winner and one of the best players and coaches to grace the Nigerian game, Henry Nwosu in a chat with footballlive the Imo State born midfielder laid his mind bare on the major issues affecting modern day Nigerian football.

He said,”The beginning of the individual players is the problem, many of them do not like football, they jump into football for the money, that is the problem we are having in the game for now”.

He also added, “The players themselves are not giving enough in football, they must do researches and develop on their own, they must improve on the side of their game that is lacking”

Speaking on the impending AFCON 2017 double header qualifier against the Pharaoh’s of Egypt, the former coach of the Super Eagles expressed confidence in the ability of the interim coach calling for his support from everyone.

He had this to say,”Samson will do us proud if we all support them”
