Andrey Arshavin became synonymous with the January
transfer window when his protracted move to Arsenal back
in 2009 was hindered by red tape, Arsene Wenger’s
dithering and the snow, 360 Metro Sports gathered.
Seven years on and Arshavin has again been left out in the
cold on deadline day with confirmation that his contract has
been cancelled by Russian Premier League Kuban
Krasnodar side by mutual consent.
"Kuban Krasnodar would like to thank Andrey Arshavin for
the time he spent in a yellow and green shirt and we wish
him all the success in his future professional career, in
whatever role he may undertake," a statement from the
club's press service read.
Arshavin’s Arsenal career began in a blaze of goalscoring
glory and the former Russia international captain quickly
established himself as a cult hero at the Emirates Stadium.
A failure to adapt to life in London triggered a chronic loss of
form and fitness, however, and he eventually returned to
Zenit in 2013 having made just 11 appearances in his final
season as an Arsenal player.
