Andy Kome from Liberia says the Solid Miners received dubious favours from the referees in their 2-1 win against the Senegalese team in Abuja
Nasarawa United’s 2-1 win over AS Academie Generation Foot of Senegal in a CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round, first leg game may be subject to scrutiny after the match commissioner, Andy Kome accused the referee and his assistants of bias.
Following a controversial penalty awarded to Nasarawa late in the game, through which they scored their winner, the Liberian match commissioner said the referees officiated with bias in favour of the Nigerian side.
“It is shameful and they (referees) cannot behave like that,” Kome told Goal. “The penalty was really cheap and it wasn’t good at all.
“He (center referee) was telling the Senegalese players that ‘if the ball hits your hand, it is a penalty’ and he was telling the Nasarawa players to go down inside the box in order for them to get a penalty.
“This is really shameful, this is a bribe and it is a shame it has gone like this. This is really shameful,” he said.
Centre referee Niya Amadou from Mauritania pointed to the spot in controversial fashion late on with the game tied at 1-1, which Seun Sogbeso converted to hand the Solid Miners a narrow win against their less fancied opponents.
However, the team's coach Kabiru Dogo has denied any allegations of bribery.
"There is no iota of truth in that. I have not heard anything like that at all. We in Nasarawa United won't pre-occupy ourselves with such frivolities when we have the second leg to play and the league season due to start in the next few days. You can show anybody the video of the match to assess if anything of that sort occurred," Dogo told Goal.
