Arsene Wenger Defends Club Decision NOT To sign A Striker

Arsene Wenger has defended Arsenal’s transfer business
after his side failed to score for a third Premier League
match in a row in Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw with
Southampton.

The Gunners had 21 shots but could not find a way past
Fraser Forster in the visitors' goal as they dropped down to
fourth in the table, five points behind league leaders
Leicester.

Arsenal signed only midfielder Mohamed Elneny in the
January transfer window but Wenger insists there were no
available strikers who could have improved his team.

“If you knew a world class striker who could strengthen our
team you should have told me,” Wenger told reporters.

“They don’t walk in the street and say ‘I’m a world class
striker please take me’. They are all under contract at big
clubs.”

Wenger admits he has been frustrated by Arsenal's four-
match winless run in the league and has called on his
players to respond when they travel to Bournemouth.

“It’s a dream to think you will catch the others if you don’t
win your games - and in the last three games we’ve picked
up two points,” Wenger added.

“We’ve had a stuttering start in 2016, our January was bad.
Where we have a big deficit is the two home games against
Chelsea and today. We have to catch that back and we need
to respond quickly.

“Forster had a good game, a brilliant game. The quality of
the chances we created was high, the quality of the finishing
was poor. That explains the result. It’s maximum
frustrating.”
