Inaki Williams will sign a new contract with Athletic Bilbao,
scuppering Tottenham's interest in the forward and raising
his release clause to €70 million.
The 21-year-old's current deal is due to expire in 2017, but
360 Metro Sports can reveal he has agreed new terms which will keep
him tied to Athletic until 2020.
As well as Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool had also been
credited with an interest to Williams, whose release clause
had stood at €20 million.
However, Athletic have been key to tie down a player they
consider to have huge potential.
Speaking on Friday, the Basque side's manager Ernesto
Valverde said: “We’re working hard [to extend Williams’
contract].
"The club are trying to close the deal, but it’s taking longer
than it should.
“I hope it’ll be resolved soon. The club are also working
hard for him to stay. His talent and goals would be very
difficult to replace.”
Williams has scored 10 goals in all competitions this
season, including four in his last six appearances.
He's expected to sign his new deal early next week,
following Athletic's La Liga game against Barcelona at
Camp Nou on Sunday.
Williams is also known for being the fastest player in La
Liga after recording a speed of 35.71 kilometres per hour in
2015, quicker than Cristiano Ronaldo (33.6) and Lionel
Messi (32.5).
