Suarez finally reveals reasons behind Ballon d'Or party snub

Luis Suarez has revealed he rejected an invitation from Fifa
to the Ballon d’Or ceremony and still harbours a grudge
against football’s governing body.

Suarez still maintains he was harshly treated by Fifa, who
handed the Barcelona striker a worldwide ban from all
football-related activities totalling four months, plus nine
international matches, for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini
during the 2014 World Cup.

The former Liverpool striker has since become an integral
part of the success Barcelona have enjoyed under Luis
Enrique and was named as the star player during the recent
Club World Cup tournament.

The 28-year-old was invited to the ceremony in Zurich,
where his team-mate Lionel Messi collected his fifth Ballon
d’Or, but refused to attend, intimating that the invite was
contrived.

"Fifa invited me to the Ballon d'Or gala using the excuse that
I'd been named the best player at the Club World Cup. I don't think they've ever invited the winner of that prize before and it just so happens that they thought to invite me", Suarez told Ovacion.

"It was a tournament that I was really excited about and I
tried not to think about who had organised it."
