Stoke City’s dream is Wembley, says Odemwingie

The Nigerian is looking to reach the final of English Football’s oldest competition, but the club must first overturn their deficit against the Reds on Tuesday

Stoke City forward Peter Odemwingie has set his focus on the English FA Cup final at Wembley.

The Potters need to defeat hosts Liverpool in Tuesday’s semi-final second leg having lost the first leg 1-0 at the Britannia.

Odemwingie, who made a second half appearance in Stoke’s 3-0 defeat at Leicester City on Saturday, expressed his team’s goal, with the latter stages of the tournament now emerging on the horizon.

"If we win on Tuesday then Leicester will be forgotten," Odemwingie told Stokesentinel.

"The deficit is one goal. We lost at home but cup games are special. Anything can happen.

"We have done well away in many games so we can keep that at the back of our minds and hopefully the result will go our way.

"We have to be better than we were at Leicester! The first half was an even game but the second was … we have to respond to what happened.

"Of course we all dream of playing at Wembley as well as the fans so we know how important this next game is."

The 34-year-old also said he is feeling fresh and ready to make an impact when Mark Hughes needs him.

He said: "I'm happy to be back involved. Players are not happy when they're not playing, but I've been training at my best to be ready.

"You need more games to be back to your best so hopefully I will keep being part of the team and get that game time.

"I hope I can play more. The boys have done great over the last month, but you know there are some times that fatigue kicks in and that's why we have a big squad.

"Hopefully it will get to my turn when the team needs me and I can contribute because I feel fresh," he concluded.
