Norwich close in on Godrey Deal

Alex Neil has confirmed Norwich are closing in on highly-
rated York City midfielder Ben Godrey.

The youngster has made 14 appearances for the League
Two side this season and is reported to be close to signing a
two-and-a-half year deal with the Canaries for a fee which
could rise to more than £1 million.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Neil suggested
the 18-year-old is a player for the future at Carrow Road.

“We’ve made an approach on him and it’s at advanced
stages so hopefully we can get that across the line soon,”
Neil told reporters.

“He’s not one for the first team at the moment. He would be
a project for us to introduce him to the Under-20s and then
try and work him into the first team if we can.

“He’s played first team football for York obviously and that
in itself suggests his development is progressing really
quickly. He’s a man already; his dad has a history in Rugby
League.”

Godfrey turned 18 on Friday and is the son of former Hull
Kingston and York City Knights Rugby League player Alex
Godfrey.
