Flanagan set for Liverpool return

Jon Flanagan is expected to be named in Liverpool’s
matchday squad for the FA Cup third-round replay against
Exeter City 619 days after his most recent appearance for
the first team.

The full-back last tasted competitive action for the Reds in
the final game of the 2013-14 season against Newcastle
United at Anfield.

He has undergone three procedures to cure a problematic
knee injury since then and is set to be on the bench for
Wednesday's home clash against the League Two side.

Jurgen Klopp revealed on Tuesday that the 23-year-old is
not yet ready to start but confirmed he will be included in the
18-man group if he can come through Liverpool's final pre-
match training session.

“Jon is in a really good way and we’re all happy about this,”
Klopp said.

“As a manager you can decide a lot but not all, so that
means the medical department decided that he didn’t train
yesterday with us.

“He will train today with us [Tuesday]. He is not [ready] for
the starting line-up, but if nothing happens and he feels good then he will be on the bench. If there is a situation then we will bring him [on], of course.

“It has really been a long time for him. I think now it first
step back for him to breathe in and feel Anfield; being back
in the dressing room, not in a suit but a tracksuit, so it’s a
good, good step for him.

"If nobody tells me something different, he will be in the
squad.”
