Brazilian star Lima turned down Mega Money move to A Chinese club

Brazil midfielder Lucas Lima says he turned down an offer
of almost €250,000 per week from a Chinese club as he
holds out for a move to Europe.

The Santos midfielder starred in the Brazilian first division
last season as his club narrowly missed out on a Copa
Libertadores spot and finished runners-up in the Brazilian
Cup.

The 25-year-old’s form has earned him a regular place in
the Brazil squad but he will not be following the likes of
fellow internationals Gil and Renato Augusto by accepting
the riches on offer in Asian football.

“It was a lot of money. If I speak about it, everyone will call
me crazy. I turned down almost €1 million per month,” he
told Globo .

“I spoke to my father, with all my family. My father always
says that money is not everything in life, that it is also
important to be happy.

“I won’t say that I do not want money or to become rich,
because I'd be lying. But the choices I make are for about
finding happiness, which will be found through playing
football and living the dream of playing for the national team
and in Europe.”

Brazilian football is currently enduring an exodus of the
league’s biggest stars to Asia, as clubs from China and the
Middle East offer huge financial packages to entice players
away from the country’s top clubs.

Lucas Lima has been heavily linked with a number of clubs
across the continent, with Portuguese giants FC Porto and a
number of Italian clubs rumoured to be interested in the
playmaker who has five caps for the Selecao.
