Barcelona defender Dani Alves has hit out at the Spanish media in the aftermath of their 4-1 victory over Espanyol in the first leg of the Copa del Rey.
The city rivals met in the last 16 at Camp Nou on Wednesday,
with an incident between Barca striker Luis Suarez and Pape
Diop seeing the Espanyol midfielder dismissed.
Suarez was subsequently handed a two-game Copa del Rey
suspension for his alleged involvement in a tunnel bust-up with Espanyol's players following the game.
Alves, writing on his Instagram profile on Friday, lashed out at the reporting of the events.
"Every day that passes I am more ashamed to form part of this sport and how they use us," he wrote.
"I used to think that you could go out and defend the shirt and if you won or lost you would go home to either reflect on how
badly or how well you had played.
"Now we are objects used by the press so that they can sell
newspapers.
"Every day that passes we talk less about football, tactics,
moves, pieces of skill, goals and the spectacle. What f******
rubbish they are."
Barca have since distanced the club from his comments,
insisting they "do not share" his views.
A statement read: "FC Barcelona first team player Dani Alves
published a very critical message about the media on Instagram using some very offensive expressions.
"Regarding those opinions, which the player is allowed to
express with total freedom, FC Barcelona feel it is necessary to clarify that they do not share the offensive expressions
published."
