Gerard Pique has defended his tweet trollingReal Madrid once it emerged thatBarcelona's arch-rivals could get thrown out of the Copa del Rey.

Rafa Benitez's men could be disqualified from the tournament after they fielded the suspended Denis Cheryshev in Wednesday's first-leg clash with Cadiz.

The midfielder netted the opening goal after just three minutes in a 3-1 away win for los Blancos, but the result was immediately blanketed in controversy when it emerged he was ineligible for the match.

Pique took to Twitter to express his amusement at the mistake while the game went on with a string of laughing emojis, and the Barcelona defender has since defended himself, insisting he had every right to laugh at his side's fierce rivals.

He said: "My tweet? I was watching a Leo Harlem monologue.... Just kidding. You know what I'm like, it was to remove the drama. It was funny. I'm this way and I'll be like that until I retire.

"We'll see how this ends. I'm sure that Cheryshev isn't comfortable with all this and I want to send him my support."
Madrid director Emilio Butragueno has insisted the club were ignorant of the suspension 24-year-old Cheryshev was supposed to serve, with the midfielder having been handed the punishment after picking up three yellow cards in the competition last season with Villarreal.

Meanwhile, Cadiz have said they will report the Liga giants to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) as a result of the mistake.
