Newcastle breathed life back into their season with a 2-0 win
over Liverpool at St James’ Park, thanks to a Martin Skrtel
own goal and a fine finish from Georginio Wijnaldum.

Steve McClaren’s side, thrashed at Crystal Palace last
weekend, opened the scoring after 69 minutes, Wijnaldum’s
shot deflecting off Skrtel’s foot and past Simon Mignolet.

Alberto Moreno thought he had equalised 10 minutes later,
superbly volleying home a pass from James Milner, only for
his effort to be ruled out for offside.

Wijnaldum then sealed the win in stoppage time racing onto
Papiss Cisse's superb pass before clipping the ball over
Mignolet to hand manager McClaren a precious three points.
