NPFL RE-CAP:-: SUNSHINE, IFEANYIUBAH WIN, NASARAWA UNITED HELD

The Akure Gunners were unruffled by the decision
of the LMC to banish them to Lagos as they
thumped Enugu Rangers while the Anambra
Warriors won their tie in Nnewi

Three outstanding Nigeria Professional Football League
(NPFL) matches were decided on Wednesday with Sunshine
Stars and FC IfeanyiUbah recording important victories but
FC Taraba grabbed a point in their tie with Nasarawa United
in Abuja.

Sunshine Stars were not troubled by the decision of the
League Management Company (LMC) to banish them to the
Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos as they defeated Enugu
Rangers by an emphatic 5-1 in a rampaging style in a
delayed Week 34 tie.

Cameroonian import, Tamen Medrano opened scoring in the
35 minute from the penalty spot after Rangers were
reduced to 10 men when the centre referee adjudged that
captain Okey Odita touched the ball in the vital area. He was
given a straight red card and Medrano seized the chance
with calmness.

Sunshine’s Tunde Adeniji scored two goals to race to the
top of the highest goals scorer chart with 16 goals. He
bagged the brace in the 51 and 79 minutes.

Dayo Ojo and Kehinde Adedipe struck the remaining two
goals in the 54 and 56 minutes before Rangers managed
to reduce the deficit through Rasaq Adegbite in the 85
minute.

Sunshine are now on 56 points from 35 matches and are
sixth on the log while Rangers are 12 on the log with 46
points from 36 games.

At the Gabros International Stadium, Nnewi, FC IfeanyiUbah
defeated El Kanemi Warriors in a NPFL Week 33
rescheduled tie after Afeez Yusuf’s 82 minute match-
winner handed all points to the home team.

Chukwude Stephen had shot the Anambra Warriors ahead in
the 19 minute after he was felled in the 18 yard box. He
dusted himself up to take the spot kick which he made no
mistakes from but the Borno Army stunned the home team
with the equalizer in the 48 minute after a wonderful 25
yards free kick converted by Ifeanyi Matthew sailed to the
back of the net.

In Abuja, the botched NPFL Week 35 tie between FC Taraba
and Nasarawa United was completed with the game ending
in a goalless draw. Crowd trouble had forced the game to be
abandoned in the 81 minute at the Jolly Nyame Stadium,
Jalingo when it was initially played two weeks ago.

Nasarawa United have moved to fifth on the log with 58
points from 36 games after they added the three points
secured from the board room in their abandoned tie Sharks
during Week 36 matches.
