The Borno Army did their push for another year in the top
flight a great boost after they beat league leaders, Enyimba
at the Karkanda Stadium in Katsina on Sunday.
Journey man Efe Yarhere scored a double that fetched his
side the maximum points against the People’s Elephants. It
was Enyimba’s fifth loss of the season in 30 matches.
Enyimba are still on top with 55 points while El Kanemi
Warriors are 13 on the table with 39 points from 30
matches.
GIWA 1-0 SHARKS
The Jos Elephants started life under new interim coach,
Danladi Bugi on a winning note after Charles Henlong’s
early minute strike handed them maximum points at home
to the Blue Angels.
The report linking Manu Garba to the club turned out to be
farce as the former Flying Eagles’ coach has come out to
deny it. But Goal sources informed that Manu actually
watched the team’s training session last week but
discussions over a move to the Jos side are still a bit
premature.
Giwa are fifth on the log with 49 points from 30 games and
they have opened a three point gap between them and
nearest foes, Nasarawa United while Sharks are back in the
relegation zone as they are currently 17 on the log with 33
points from 30 games.
DOLPHINS 3-1 FC TARABA
The Port Harcourt side added to the relegation woes of the
Jalingo Boys at the Liberation Stadium on Sunday after a
3-1 thumping through the goals of Omoh Johnson and
Ghanaian import Godbless Asamoah. Asamoah has scored
five goals this season and only returned to action after some
time on the sideline due to injury.
Dolphins are out of the drop zone for now as they have
amassed 34 points from 30 games while FC Taraba’s
chances of another season in the elite division appear to be
diming after yet another loss. They are still 19 on the log
with 29 points from 30 matches with only eight matches to
the end of the season.
WIKKI TOURISTS 2-0 BAYELSA UNITED
The Bauchi side regained their third spot on the log barely a
day after they lost it to Sunshine Stars who beat kwara
United in Ilorin on Saturday.
Nafiu Bala was among the scorers for Wikki Tourists and the
Abdu Maikaba led side are third on the league table with 51
points from 30 games while Bayelsa United must fight
harder just like they did last season to regain their premier
league status at the end of the season.
They are currently last on the log with 26 points from 30
matches.
HEARTLAND 0-0 LOBI STARS
The Naze Millionaires played out a dull goalless draw at
home to the Pride of Benue who fought desperately to hang
on for a point that will improve their lot on the table.
Heartland used the match to commemorate the 21
anniversary of the Oriental Airline crash which claimed the
lives of two of their players and they also unveiled their new
striker, Victor Ezeji who crossed over from Sunshine Stars
to fulfill his ambition of playing in his 20 consecutive
season in the NPFL.
The two occasions no doubt overwhelmed the Owerri side
who put every foot wrong for most part of the encounter and
by the time they woke up towards the end of the match,
good saves of Lobi Stars’ goalkeeper, Agbor Ekoi and
calamitous misses hindered them from getting the desired
three points.
Heartland fell to eighth on the log with 44 points from 30
matches while Lobi are 14 on the table with 36 points
from same number of matches. They are three points clear
of relegation zone.
3SC 1-0 AKWA UNITED
Oluyole Warriors pipped the Promise Keepers at the Lekan
Salami Stadium, Ibadan to move to 10 spot on the table
with 44 points from 30 matches while Akwa United still have
much work to do to guarantee top flight stay at the end of
the season.
Akwa United boss Zachary Baraje had told Goal recently that
they had been quite unfortunate with results that had come
their way in the league this season despite playing the better
football against their foes but it was yet another
disappointing spell in Ibadan on Sunday after they ended the
tie without a point to show for their battling effort.
Akwa United are 16 on the log with 34 points from 30
games and are only a point off the drop zone with eight
matches to the end of the season.
NASARAWA UNITED 1-0 ENUGU RANGERS
The Solid Miners relied on the heroics of danger-man Esosa
Igbinoba to secure maximum points against the Flying
Antelopes at the Lafia Township Stadium on Sunday.
Igbinoba who ensured he netted his fifth goal in the last five
matches has scored 14 goals in the league this season and
he is the current leading scorer in the top flight ahead of
Sunshine Stars’ Tunde Adeniji and Bright Ejike of Heartland
who are on 13 and 12 goals respectively.
Nasarawa United who are one of the surprise teams of the
season thus far having secured two important away wins in
Akure and Kano are currently sixth on the log with 46 points
from 30 matches while Rangers are 12 on the log with 40
points from 30 matches.
ABIA WARRIORS 2-1 WARRI WOLVES
Despite two major incidences that happened during the
encounter that threatened to call off the match, Abia
Warriors braved the odds to beat the Seasiders at the
Umuahia Township Stadium on Sunday.
There was a case of serious concussion when two players:
Wolves’ Solomon Kwambe and Ifeanyi Onyeali of Abia
Warriors contested an aerial ball and their clash of heads
left both of them unconscious for several minutes before
they were revived back to life.
Onyeali did manage to continue and was even the match
hero when he converted the second goal of the match
despite having his head heavily bandaged but Kwambe was
substituted and had to stay with his team mates on the
bench for the remainder of the game.
Abia Warriors also lost their goalkeeper, Bassey Akpan to
injury very early in the game and had to be replaced.
The Umuahia side opened the scoring through Henry
Ochuba but Joseph Osadaiye restored parity for the home
team before the match winner by Onyeali in the 54 minute.
They are ninth on the log with 46 points from 30 matches
while Warri Wolves are still second on the table with 51
points from 30 games.
FC IFEANYIUBAH 1-1 KANO PILLARS
The Anambra Warriors were tamed at home by Sai Masu
Gida at the Gabros International Stadium, Nnewi on Sunday.
Adamu Mohammed shot Pillars into the lead very early in
the game and were almost cruising to yet another away win
before Meshack Chukwubuikem scored the equalizer seven
minutes to the end of the match.
FC IfeanyiUbah are 11 on the log with 42 points from 30
games and they are nine points off continental ticket spot
while Pillars are seventh on the table with 44 points from 30
ties. They are 11 points away from top spot and are almost
certain not to but are still with a chance of picking one of
the tickets to Africa if they improve in the remaining eight
matches.
