Boris Konan provided the sucker punch with which the Nduka Ndubuisi led FC Taraba were able to get the maximum points in Jalingo. Konan benefitted from a well laid pass from Stephen Adah to drill home the only goal inside the opening 20 minutes.

FC Taraba are 19th on the league table with 29 points from 29 matches while Giwa FC are still fifth on the log despite the loss with 46 points from 29 games.

ENYIMBA 2-0 DOLPHINS

The People’s Elephant have shown right from the beginning of the season that only the league title this term would be ideal after they had played second fiddle to Kano Pillars in the last two seasons.

At their fortress in Aba on Sunday they scored two second half goals to turn back stubborn Pride of Rivers. It was the second time they would be beaten Dolphins in the league this season after they won the corresponding fixture in Port Harcourt in May this year 2-1.

Andrew Abalogu headed Enyimba in front in the 64th minute before Ifeanyi Anaemena doubled the lead ten minutes later. With nine matches to the end of the league season it will only take Enyimba themselves to halt their chase for a seventh league title. They last won the league shield in 2010.

Enyimba are on top of the league table with 55 points from 29 matches while Dolphins have slipped back to the drop zone. They have 31 points from 29 matches and are 18th on the log.

The Restoration Boys were rampant in their home win over the Borno Army in Oghara on Saturday. A hat trick from Bernard Ovoke and another from Kadiri Samad guided Bayelsa United to almost their best performance of the season. Former Junior International, Ifeanyi Matthew however scored El Kanemi Warriors’ consolation goal.

Bayelsa United are still last on the league table despite the emphatic win with 26 points from 29 matches while El Kanemi are fast  throwing themselves into the relegation zone. They are presently 13th on the log with 36 points from 29 matches.

Lobi are 14th on the log with 35 points while Wikki have displaced Sunshine Stars in third position on the league table. They are on 48 points from 29 matches.

AKWA UNITED 1-0 HEARTLAND

The promise keepers avenged their home loss to the Naze Millionaires two seasons ago. They were unable to beat the Owerri side also last season after a battling goalless draw in Uyo.

It was however a different story on Sunday at the magnificent Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo as Akwa United ran away 1-0 winners.

SUNSHINE STARS 2-3 NASARAWA UNITED

Even if they are unable to win a continental ticket at the end of the season, the Solid Miners have left indelible fingerprints that would be very hard to erase by other teams after they defeated the Owena waves in Akure on Sunday.

Sunshine Stars who have been impregnable at home this season before their last home match against Heartland which ended goalless are yet to secure a point from the last three matches after the Lafia side silenced them at home.

Afolabi Okiki’s double failed to guarantee Sunshine maximum points after Thomas Zenke opener and Esosa Igbinoba’s double wrapped up a remarkable result in Akure for Nasarawa United.

The Akure Gunners have slipped further out of the title chasers after the home loss as they are now fourth on the log with 47 points from 29 matches. Nasarawa United on their part are eighth on the log with 43 points from 29 matches.
