The Akure Gunners fuelled by their rapturous home fans, brought Okey Emordi’s men to their feet to remain atop the Nigeria topflight log on Sunday evening
Goals from Paul Onobi, Seun Olulayo and Dayo Ojo were all Kennedy Boboye’s men needed to send Okey Emordi’s side back home empty-handed after hand them their sixth league defeat of the season.
The hosts who are eyeing their first league diadem began the game on a bright note as they dominated possession – though missed a couple of chances to go ahead.
As if they heard the yearning of their home fans, they went ahead in the 25th minute through Onobi’s header which put them in firm control of the game.
Tunde Adeniji ought to have taken his two goals up in the first half but missed several scoring chances, albeit having one ruled for an offside.
Olulayo’s simple tap in 12 minutes into the second half plus Ojo’s penalty strike in the closing stages of the game after a defender of Pillars had been adjudged to have handled the ball ensured the reigning league kings were well-beaten.
With this defeat, Kano Pillars boast of 21 points from 13 games while Sunshine Stars remain at the peak of the log with 26 points from same number of games.
