Brazil football great Pele is stable in hospital in Sao Paulo after being admitted for the second time in six months, this time to have prostate surgery.
A spokesman for the Albert Einstein Hospital in the city confirmed the 74-year-old had been admitted and said he had undergone a transurethral resection of the prostate on Tuesday.
He is in a stable condition according to their statement.
Local news site Globoesporte earlier reported that Pele was suffering a prostate condition called hyperplasia, which they said could increase the risk of urinary tract infection.
Pele was released from the same hospital in early December following a two-week stay which followed surgery to remove kidney stones.
After developing an infection, he was placed in intensive care for five days.
His only kidney - the other was removed following an injury during his playing days - had stopped working and he had to be treated with haemodialysis, a procedure that involves filtering a patient's blood through an artificial kidney.
