Schweinsteiger set for Bayern exit

Bastian Schweinsteiger could be on his way out of Bayern Munich at the end of the season after losing his place to Xabi Alonso in the German champions team according to former Germany international Dietmar Hamann.

After helping the Germany national team to the World Cup glory in Brazil last summer, Schweinsteiger has since seen his role in Pep Guardiola’s side decimated since the arrival of Spaniard Alonso.

Though Schweinsteiger has also struggled with minor niggles and fitness but the veteran midfielder was an unused substitute in Bayern’s 6-1 Champions League win over Porto on Tuesday which prompted Hamann to say the 30-year-old could be heading for the Allianz Arena exit this summer.
“The game against Porto was quite meaningful for two players in particular,” Hamann told Kicker.

“Schweinsteiger has apparently lost the battle for a place in midfield to Xabi Alonso. I do not think Schweinsteiger will still be playing for Bayern next year.”
