Isong Isang resigns as Akwa United boss



The Promise Keepers' boss has left his post after seven years with his vice chairman named as replacement with immediate effect.

Akwa UnitedObong Isong Isang has resigned his post as Chairman of Akwa United after near seven year in charge of the Uyo based Nigeria Professional Football League outfit.

In a statement to Goal, signed by the club's media officer, Uwem Ukor said the out-going chairman Isong Isang decided to leave his post due to health reasons.

In an emergency board meeting, Mr Uko Akpabio, who is a member of the board of Akwa United and brother to the state governor, said the committee have accepted Mr Isang's decision in 'good faith' and applauded him for his tremendous contributions.

Meanwhile, the vice chairman of Akwa United Akparawa Nse Ubeh has been appointed the chairman of the Promise Keepers on the interim capacity.

According to the statement, :The executive board of Akwa United has unanimously appointed Ubeh as the acting chairman of the club with immediate effect.

"We commend the outgoing chairman Isang for his leadership qualities and for also ensuring that the team remains in the elite division of the Nigeria league in the past few years."

In a same vien, the newly appointed acting chairman, Ubeh expressed gratitude at his appointment while promising not to disappoint the state government, management and fans of the club in his role.

"I thank the members of the board for the confidence repose on him. I assure everyone that I will work with the board, stakeholders and fans to take the club to greater height," Ubeh said.

Coach Zachary Baraje's men who are currently 18th on the NPFL log with four points in five, will welcome Dolphins in a Week Six game on Sunday, April 26.
